1. Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)
   • Risk is reduced using bleaching creams,
   • We use Hydroquinone 4% topical cream,
   • Mostly started in the 4th week post-treatment
   • Can also be used for 1 week pre-treatment.

2. Hypopigmentation
   • may occur after fully ablative laser.

3. Demarcation lines
   • may occur in partially treated facial areas.
   • usually resolves on its own.
   • can be removed with repeated treatment.

4. Infections - (Bacterial/ Viral/ Fungal)
   • risk is reduced be prophylactic antibiotics.
   • can be treated as need per each case.

5. Prolonged Redness or erythema
   • may occur after fully ablative laser.
   • less likely with fractional lasers.

6. Post Laser dermatitis
   • Lower risk with anti-inflammatory aftercare ointments,
   • Less likely with moisturizing creams and sunscreens.

✚ Laser Safety on different Skins types

• Fitzpatrick Skin Types:
  • I-II are the safest with best healing course.
  • III-IV has some risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, can be done with lower energy fractional laser, with moderate aftercare.
  • IV-V has high risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, if unable to avod, should be done with fractional lower energy laser, with stronger aftercare.
  • VI has very high risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and should be avoided.
